I paid my live-in nanny Brenda thirty-five hundred dollars a month. In return, she secretly used my three-hundred-dollar luxury essence as foot lotion and shoved cold leftover scraps down my toddler's throat. When I caught her red-handed, she didn't even flinch. "What's wrong with leftovers? Kids these days are far too spoiled!" The moment I pulled up the nanny-cam footage to fire her, she threw herself onto the floor, screaming and throwing a wild tantrum. Her daughter immediately jumped in, accusing me of withholding wages. Within hours, she summoned a mob of distant relatives to blockade my front door. Even my real estate agent tried to lecture me. "Come on, Evelyn. They're underprivileged. You've got plenty of cash. Just write them a check and settle it." I live by one rule: never wrestle with pigs. If you have a happy life, just step aside and let toxic people choke on their own filth. She refused to move out? Fine. I would move out. Selling the house would solve everything. I did a quick background check and found out her daughter worked at a local corporate office nearby, and her CEO was actively house hunting. I went straight to him and sold the property to him at a two-hundred-thousand-dollar discount below market value. On moving day, Brenda’s daughter stood in front of the moving truck, arms akimbo and smirking smugly. "Moving won't save you! My mom is staying put. Whoever buys or rents this place gets run out of town. We're glued to you for life!" I almost laughed out loud. Go ahead, keep squatting. I couldn't wait to see how Brenda planned on kicking out her own daughter's billionaire boss. I walked into my master bedroom and started packing. The vanity table, which was always organized down to the millimeter, looked practically stripped. My chest tightened. I rushed over. More than half of my luxury skincare collection was gone. My La Mer moisturizing cream had vanished. My Helena Rubinstein restorative serum was nowhere to be seen. Even the brand-new anti-aging concentrate I had just bought for nearly three thousand dollars was missing. Left behind were only the cheap drugstore moisturizers I rarely touched. I didn't even have to guess who was responsible. Apart from my immediate family, Brenda was the only other person in this house. She had always played the part of a timid, simple older woman. But behind my back, her sticky fingers reached into every corner. People like her had an itch for taking things that didn't belong to them. Whenever they saw something shiny and valuable, they just couldn't resist. I inhaled deeply, forcing the rage down into my chest, and turned around. At the end of the hallway was the nanny's guest room. The door was left slightly ajar, letting out a pungent wave of cheap perfume mixed with stale sweat. I pushed the door open. My eyes instantly locked onto her nightstand. Every single missing bottle was boldly arranged right there. The caps were unscrewed. Some of the jars were half-empty. My three-hundred-dollar miracle essence was almost completely drained. The nanny-cam memory flashed in my mind—Brenda slathering that very bottle onto her cracked, dirty heels. A wave of nausea hit my stomach. I pulled out my phone and snapped several high-resolution photos in rapid succession. The flash reflected against the polished glass. Right then, a screeching voice pierced the air from behind me. "What the hell are you doing in here!" Brenda stood in the doorway, her bloodshot eyes glaring at me with raw hostility. I tucked my phone into my pocket, turned around, and met her gaze coldly. "Just taking a look." I pointed directly at the nightstand, my voice eerily calm. "Care to explain how all my stolen designer cosmetics ended up in your bedroom?" Brenda’s eyes darted around for a fraction of a second. Then she stiffened her neck and barked back. "Don't you dare slander me! These are mine!" "Yours?" A sharp, humorless chuckle escaped my lips. "That La Mer cream alone costs more than your monthly paycheck. You expect me to believe you bought it?" "Why couldn't I buy it?" Brenda shoved me aside aggressively and shielded the nightstand with her body. "I scrimp and save every penny to send my daughter through college! Can't I treat myself to something nice for once? "What about you? Barging into my private room without permission—are you trying to steal from me?" Steal from her? The sheer audacity of this woman was astonishing. She could flip the blame faster than a professional con artist. I crossed my arms and swept a contemptuous look over her faded ten-dollar outfit. "Brenda, everything on your body right now isn't worth twenty bucks. "Do you honestly think I’d steal anything from you?" The truth struck a nerve. Brenda’s face instantly flushed the color of a bruised beet. She shrieked at the top of her lungs. "You think you're better than me! "Just because you have money gives you the right to walk all over honest folks? "You rich snobs can just frame anyone you want, huh?" I wasn't about to waste another breath on her. I turned on my heel toward the front door. Engaging with a delusional parasite was a complete waste of energy. I had already hired the moving crew. They were scheduled to arrive any minute. If she loved this house so much, she could keep it. The deed wouldn't belong to me anymore anyway. Seeing me turn away, Brenda assumed I was backing down. Her arrogance exploded. She lunged forward and grabbed the fabric of my sleeve tightly. "Don't you dare walk away! We settle this right here and right now! "You ruined my reputation! You're going to pay me for damages!"Damages? Her twisted logic was borderline comical. I jerked my arm back violently, yanking my sleeve free, and brushed off my jacket with disgust. "How much do you want? Twenty bucks? "That should buy you plenty of dollar-store petroleum jelly for your crusty feet." Brenda shook with sheer fury, drawing in a breath to scream bloody murder. Just then, the doorbell chimed. The movers were here. Three burly men in uniform stepped into the foyer. Seeing the explosive tension between us, they paused awkwardly. "Mrs. Miller?" the lead mover asked cautiously. I nodded calmly. "Yes. Let's get started. Pack up everything in the living room and master bedroom first." The second Brenda heard that, she threw herself flat onto the hardwood floor. She slammed her palms against the floorboards, letting out an ear-splitting, dramatic wail. "Help! Murder! The rich are abusing the working class! "They're moving everything! They're stripping my home bare! "I might as well just die right now!" The movers exchanged uneasy glances, not daring to lift a single box. They had seen these neighborhood disputes before. Nobody wanted to get dragged into a messy lawsuit or police report. Looking down at Brenda rolling on the floor like a wounded beast, the last shred of my pity evaporated into thin air. When I first hired her, it was purely out of sympathy. A single mother raising a daughter, with an ex-husband drowning in gambling debt. I wanted to give her a helping hand. Even though she lacked proper qualifications, I offered her an above-market salary. Whenever she accidentally broke a porcelain bowl or scratched the furniture, I never docked her pay. I had no idea that to someone like her, kindness looked like weakness. She saw me as an easy target. Her behavior grew progressively worse. It started with sneaking expensive snacks from the pantry, escalated to using my skincare collection, and peaked when she began feeding my toddler old scraps from the trash. And now, she had the nerve to squat in my house and refuse to leave. I pulled out my phone, unlocked it right in front of her face, and dialed 911. The moment Brenda saw the emergency screen, her wails hitched for a beat. Then she doubled down, screeching even louder. "Call them! Go on, call the cops! I'm not afraid! "I'm the victim here! You rich exploiters can't crush us forever! "Let's see who looks worse when the whole neighborhood comes watching!" Before I could hit the call button, the front door swung open again. My husband, David, stepped inside holding our son, Leo. David’s eyes landed on Brenda writhing on the floor, and his brow furrowed into a deep line. Little Leo buried his face in his father’s shoulder, glancing at me with terrified eyes. I let out a quiet breath and walked over to David’s side. "Is everything settled over at the new place?" David nodded, shifting Leo securely into his arms. "All set. As soon as the boxes get there, we can unpack." He cast a cold glance at Brenda and leaned down to whisper in my ear. "What’s her deal now?" Before I could answer, a young woman burst through the front entrance. She was wearing a skimpy tank top, heavy makeup, and holding her phone straight up, shoving the camera directly into David's face. "Look at this, everyone! Take a good look at this filthy predator!" Her sharp voice shattered the room like broken glass. It was Brenda's daughter, Chloe Higgins. Last night, she had shown up unannounced, claiming her lease expired and begging to crash on our living room couch for one night. I hadn't thought much of it at the time and let her stay. Who knew that the moment she finished showering, she deliberately walked around the living room wrapped in nothing but a tiny bath towel. David had gone downstairs to grab a glass of water, ran into her by accident, and immediately turned back upstairs without a word. I hadn't even confronted her about her cheap stunt yet, and here she was, playing the victim. Chloe waved her phone violently, spit flying as she shouted into her livestream. "This sick bastard laid his hands on me last night! "If I hadn't run for my life, he would have ruined me! "I'm pressing charges! I'm reporting him for assault!" David’s expression turned utterly glacial. His grip around our son tightened protectively. I stepped right in front of David, blocking her camera, and stared at Chloe with absolute disdain. "Laid his hands on you? "Chloe, have you looked in a mirror lately? "With my husband’s standards, do you honestly think he’d look twice at trash like you?"Chloe froze for a second, caught off guard by my blunt words, before turning completely hysterical. "How dare you insult me! "He touched me! He traumatized me for life! "You owe me emotional damages!" Seeing her daughter join the fray, Brenda scrambled up from the floor like a revived zombie, instantly diving back into combat. "Damn right! My daughter is an innocent, decent girl, and your filthy husband ruined her! "This isn't over! We want two hundred thousand dollars!" Two hundred thousand? Just like that, right out of thin air. These two were truly delusional gold-diggers. David let out a harsh scoff and pointed toward the ceiling corner in the living room. "You claim I assaulted you? "There's a high-definition security camera right up there. Care to review the footage together?" Chloe glanced nervously at the black dome on the ceiling, her eyes wavering for a fraction of a second. But she quickly lifted her chin, putting on an arrogant smirk. "Who gives a damn about your camera? "I'll tell the internet you assaulted me! Public opinion will tear you apart!" I knew exactly what her game was. She wanted to weaponize social media and cancel us. If she wanted to play a high-stakes drama, I was more than happy to give her the full performance. I gave David a subtle glance. Understanding immediately, David pulled out his phone and began downloading the raw footage from the cloud storage. I turned back to Brenda. "Squatting here is pointless. The new homeowner will be here any minute." Hearing that the property had been sold, Brenda’s shifty eyes spun in calculation. She probably assumed the new buyer would be another polite pushover she could bully. "You sold the place? "We don't care! We're not stepping a foot out of here! "Unless you take both of us to your new house and keep paying me thirty-five hundred a month! "Otherwise, we squat here forever. We'll terrorize every tenant or buyer who walks through that door!" What a vile pair of parasites. I couldn't help but laugh out loud. "Take you with us? "I wouldn't want you tracking filth into my new home. "People like you will spend your entire lives scraping pennies through cheap extortion. "No wonder you're stuck doing menial work and renting basements." Every word struck Brenda right where it hurt most. Humiliated and blinded by rage, she lunged toward me with her hands outstretched, aiming to shove me down. "You little bitch!" I was already braced for it and took a clean step to the side. Brenda caught only empty air. Losing her balance completely, she crashed hard onto the floorboards with a heavy thud. She lay stunned for a second. Realizing she had fallen, she simply decided to stay down and play dead. "She broke my bones! Call an ambulance! I need the ER!" Chloe immediately whipped her phone around, aiming the lens right at Brenda’s sprawled body. Her voice dropped into an agonizing, performative sob. "Look at this, guys! The wealthy elite just knocked an elderly mother unconscious! "Where is the justice in this country!" Brenda groaned loudly from the floorboards. "If I don't get two hundred thousand dollars today, nobody leaves this room! "Medical bills, pain and suffering, lost wages—I want every single cent!" Two hundred thousand dollars. She had probably never seen that much cash in her entire miserable life. Staring at her greedy, contorted face, I felt nothing but utter disgust. "Two hundred grand? "You really have the nerve. "Is your useless carcass even worth that much?" Brenda rolled back and forth on the floor. "A human life is on the line here!" Right at that moment, a firm knock sounded against the open front door. The new owner had arrived. The sound of the knock caused Brenda to shoot up from the floor like lightning. She had clearly prepped her sabotage routine beforehand. She sprinted straight into the kitchen and re-emerged holding a plastic basin full of murky, foul-smelling liquid. It was the dirty foot-soak water she had saved earlier, mixed with floating grease and wilted vegetable scraps. She stationed herself right beside the entryway, her eyes gleeful with malice. "The second that door opens, I'm soaking them! "Let's see who dares to buy this cursed house!" I checked my phone screen. The real estate agent had just sent a text: The new buyer is stepping out of the elevator. I looked at Brenda, my voice dropping to a warning chill. "You'd better think twice. "You throw that water, and your life as you know it is over." Brenda let out a sinister sneer. "Over? Your lives are the ones that are over! "As long as I rot on this floor, this place is a stigmatized crime scene! "Nobody will ever live here!" The doorknob turned. The new owner stepped through the threshold. Timing her move, Brenda hoisted the basin with both hands and hurled the putrid liquid forward with all her might! In that split second, I lunged forward and slammed my shoulder into her arm. Splash! Most of the filthy water crashed against the entryway wall, with only a few stray droplets splashing onto the newcomer’s pristine, tailored trouser cuff. Brenda staggered backward from my shove, nearly tumbling over the console table. She opened her mouth, ready to unleash a torrent of curses, but froze when she noticed the dead silence in the room. Beside her, Chloe caught sight of the man's face. Her phone slipped through her fingers, nearly crashing to the floor. "Mr.... Mr. Vance?"
